Bauxite Hills
The Bauxite Hills integrated mine and port project is Metro Mining's immediate project and deliberate focus.
The project is approximately 95 kilometres north of Weipa on western Cape York within the bauxite plateau - between the Ducie and Skardon Rivers. It is 5kms southeast of the existing port at Skardon River.
The Pre-Feasibility Study of Bauxite Hills, Metro Mining's flagship project, has delivered an excellent Net Present Value (NPV 15%) of $197 million.
The independent Pre Feasibility Study, conducted by MEC Mining Consultants, estimated a 20 year + life for the mine at a mining rate of 2 million tones per annum of Direct Shipment Ore (DSO).
The low capital expenditure of $27.4 million to establish the Project, combined with a simple operating strategy delivering low operating costs, has resulted in a long-term project, with excellent margins.
The PFS supports the company’s strategy to develop Bauxite Hills as soon as possible, with the aim being to fill a shortfall in the bauxite supply market.
Project approvals are expected by the first half of next year with production targeted for the third quarter of 2016
