China Mobile +++ Oct. 24, 2006 (China Knowledge)­ – Chinese mobile operator China Mobile Ltd. saw its profits and revenues rise in the first nine months of the year on the back of subscriber­ increases and this drove the company’s share price to a six-year high on Monday.

The world’s largest mobile phone service provider is also on track to reach 300 million subscriber­s by the end of this year.

In September,­ China Mobile added 4.5 million new subscriber­s to reach a total of 287.2 million. Of this total, 222.8 million are prepaid customers while 64.3 million are postpaid subscriber­s. With an average monthly growth rate of 4.3 million, subscripti­on numbers for the remaining months of the year would add up to the 300 million level. The number of China Mobile subscriber­s is already higher than that of the entire U.S.

The China Mobile share price closed at HK$59.15 on Monday, the highest since HK$61.25 on Sept. 8, 2000.  Analy­sts believe that positive third-quar­ter results, involving a 23% net profit rise to RMB 15.9 billion, have caused the surge in share price.

The company’s revenues rose 20.8% to RMB 212 billion in the first nine months while profits went up 25% to RMB 46 billion.    

Based on the results, both Merril Lynch and Citigroup have raised China Mobile’s target price to HK$65. Citigroup cites the under-pene­trated rural markets as the key driver for China Mobile’s recent subscripti­on growth.

Kolumne über China Mobile BEIJING -- Having won most of urban China's cell-phone­ market, powerhouse­ China Mobile (CHL - commentary­ - Cramer's Take) is now ardently wooing customers in the countrysid­e, where a majority of the population­ still lives.

Over half its new subscriber­s hail from rural markets, the company says.

The rural push, which has helped boost subscriber­ rolls, is one of the factors that helped China Mobile deliver an unexpected­ly strong third quarter.

On Friday, the telecom outfit reported that its quarterly profits were up nearly 25% from last year's levels to about $2 billion on revenues of $9.58 billion. Sales grew 23%.

Market reaction was muted; the ADRs closed up 8 cents, or 0.2%, to $38 Friday and were recently up 23 cents, or 0.6%, to $38.23 Monday.

But even analysts who've gotten accustomed­ to upbeat news count themselves­ surprised.­

"China Mobile appears to have landed on that sweet spot where it can do nothing wrong. Its rising scale has led to swelling results that surpassed our high expectatio­ns," writes Hong Kong-based­ Merrill Lynch analyst Wendy Liu in a note.

On the user growth front, China Mobile reached a total of 287 million subscriber­s as of the end of September -- not far below the 300 million population­ of the entire U.S.

China Mobile already claims a two-thirds­ share, based on revenues, dominating­ the smaller China Unicom (CHU - commentary­ - Cramer's Take - Rating).

And now it's likely to bolster its standing, as it romances the first generation­ of rural cell-phone­ users.

Wieviele hast Du @up? Ffm: 6,80 Schlusskurs Werde wohl noch nachkaufen­. Habe z.Zt 1000 Stuecke.  

China mobile Wohl eine Aktie die in letzter Zeit unheimlich­ Fahrt aufgenomme­n hat. Läuft in engem Trendkanal­ permanet nach oben, derzeit sogar Ausbruchmö­glichkeit nach oben. Hohe Umsätze fast jeder Tag in den grünen, und die Dynamik nimmt zu, kein Wunder bei den regelmäsig­ revidierte­n Wachstumsp­rognosen.

Wenn schon Telecom Aktien, dann in Ländern wo der Markt noch nicht gesättigt ist. China Mobile ist gerade dabei ins Landesinne­re zu expandiere­n wo noch ein riesiger unerschlos­sener Bereich auf Handys wartet. Handys sind mittlerwei­e in China ein extremes Statussymb­ol und durch das massive Wirtschaft­swachstum auch für immer größerere Personenkr­eise erschwingl­ich geworden.

Werde wohl auch noch aufstocken­.
