AFTER four years of being one of the market's biggest gold bears, high-profi­le Goldman Sachs broker Richard Coppleson has relented and recommende­d buying gold stocks.

"The gold bugs will be confused - their greatest critic has just joined their side - but as I have always said I would invest in gold when I felt the froth was out. Now looks like that time," Coppleson told clients yesterday in his daily afternoon note.

Canadian miner Barrick Gold is expected to cut more jobs at its gold mines in Western Australia.­ The company sacked almost 60 people at the beginning of June 2013. It will announce further cost-savin­g measures on 26 June. It is expected that about 100 jobs will be cut from the regional head office in Perth and more cuts at the company's five mines. Parts of the mines may be closed.
