Der Molybdän-Stahl findet dann vor allem bei der Herstellung von Öl- und Gaspipelines, die einer extremen Beanspruchung unterliegen, seine Verwendung. Seit Mitte der 1960er-Jahre ist der Molybdän-Verbrauch weltweit um rund 400 Prozent gewachsen. Der Preis für ein Pound Molybdän hat sich seit Anfang 2000 von knapp drei auf aktuell 26 Dollar mehr als verachtfacht. Und die Rallye könnte weitergehen, denn in den kommenden Jahren werden Schätzungen nach weltweit über 100.000 Kilometer neue Pipelines zum Transport von Öl und Gas verlegt. Viele von diesen Röhren werden Molybdän enthalten.

Moly Mines wird ab 2009 in den Abbau von Molybdän einsteigen. Das Projekt, das den Namen „Spinifex Ridge“ trägt und in der Pilbara-Region im Nordwesten des australischen Kontinents liegt, verfügt über Vorkommen von 300.000 Tonnen Molybdän, 450.000 Tonnen Kupfer und 280.000 Unzen Gold. Damit hält Moly Mines hinter der kanadischen Gesellschaft Blue Pearl Mining und dem US-Konzern Idaho General die drittgrößte Molybdän-Grube der Welt in der Hand.
Moly Mines ist unterbewertet
Im Gegensatz zur Konkurrenz sind aber die Aktien von Moly Mines an der Börse noch unentdeckt. Während sich zum Beispiel die Papiere von Blue Pearl Mining im zurückliegenden Jahr mehr als verdoppelt haben, enttäuschten die Anteilscheine von Moly Mines mit einem Minus von 30 Prozent. Diese Entwicklung hat zu einer deutlichen Unterbewertung der Aktien von Moly Mines geführt. Während Blue Pearl Mining bei einer jährlichen Molybdän-Produktion von rund 12.000 Tonnen an der Börse derzeit mit 473 Millionen Euro bewertet wird, kommt Moly Mines mit einer geplanten Produktion von 9.000 Tonnen auf nur 41 Millionen Euro. Dass es für Moly Mines am Aktienmarkt in Zukunft besser laufen wird, dafür könnte der Managing Director des Unternehmens, Dr. Derek Fisher, sorgen. Er „trimmt“ Moly Mines auf das Molybdän-Geschäft und stößt Randaktivitäten ab. So gab man erst vor wenigen Tagen den Verkauf einer Goldmine in New South Wales bekannt. Der Verkaufspreis, der eine Barzahlung von fünf Millionen Australische Dollar beinhaltet, wird in die Spinifex-Mine investiert.

Werde auch keine mehr abgeben und zuschauen wie der Wert in den nächsten 2 Jahren (Produktionsstart) weiterläuft.
War ne Weile bei den Aussi's und kenne deren gute wirtschaftliche Beziehung zu Asien. Die Chinesen sind da garantiert auch schnell die Hauptabnehmer. Jeder weiß wie die die Preise treiben.
Aber von in D unentdeckt würde ich nicht mehr sprechen. Auch, wenn die Volumen nicht so riesig sind wie in CAN.

Moly Mines Ltd. has appointed Perth-based Azure Capital as corporate finance adviser to the company's Spinifex Ridge molybdenum-copper project in Western Australia.
Azure has been selected by Moly Mines to provide strategic advice to the board and to recommend an optimal finance structure for the development of the Spinifex Ridge project. It will assist in co-ordinating a competitive bidding process on both the debt and equity financing instruments, and also advise on the company's continuing discussions with potential molybdenum off-take participants in the project. In this regard, Moly Mines is encouraged by the strong interest shown by the Asian consumers and trading houses for molybdenum raw materials.
The company is also well advanced in discussions with a number of financial institutions that could offer a broad range of debt products to the project, including traditional project financing and high-yield bond market debt. Azure's role includes advising on the key terms of debt-financing arrangements.
Commenting on the appointment, managing director, Dr. Derek Fisher, said: "The pool of financing alternatives that appears to be available to the Spinifex Ridge project is very deep. Recent financings of China Molybdenum Company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Blue Pearl (now Thompson Creek Metals Company Inc.) financing for the acquisition of the Thompson Creek assets last year and the continued strength of the world molybdenum market, where prices for molybdenum oxide have recently exceeded $30 (U.S.) per pound, highlight the increasing appetite from the world's debt and equity markets to fund a substantial new development such as Spinifex Ridge. Azure's appointment at this time reflects the maturity of the Spinifex Ridge feasibility study and the board's desire to bring the project to a financial close by Sept. 30."
Azure specializes in managing the financing process from development of financing strategy and structuring, through to the negotiation, execution and completion of debt, equity and hybrid raisings.
Azure capital director, Geoff Rasmussen, commented: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to assist Moly Mines with the Spinifex Ridge financing. The definitive feasibility study for the proposed 15-million-tonne-per-year mining and processing facility at Spinifex Ridge is on schedule for completion by June 30. In conjunction with the feasibility process, Moly Mines has also commenced studies for possible future expansion of the production capacity to better exploit this very large resource. The agreements reached with Muccan will support the scale of such expansion plans.

Moly Mines Ltd. has settled the sale of its NSW gold assets and as a result becomes a 19-per-cent shareholder in Australian Stock Exchange-listed gold explorer Cortona Resources Ltd.
On settlement, Moly Mines received:
$5-million (Australian) cash; and
12 million fully paid ordinary shares in Cortona.
Moly Mines entered a binding term sheet with Cortona in February of this year. The deemed consideration was calculated at 20 Australian cents per Cortona share. Cortona's closing price today on the Australian Stock Exchange was 38 Australian cents per share, a 190-per-cent increase since completing the term sheet.
Moly Mines managing director Dr. Derek Fisher said: "The sale of the gold assets has unlocked substantial value for Moly Mines shareholders. Sitting within Moly Mines Ltd., these gold assets had been significantly overshadowed by the Spinifex Ridge molybdenum/copper project."
On a fully diluted basis, Moly Mines owns 27.8 per cent of Cortona, although the company would be subject to the Corporations Act (2001) takeover provisions in reaching these levels.
Dr. Fisher has been appointed to the board of Cortona as a non-executive director.
In addition to the cash and shares received at settlement, Moly Mines also received:
Eight million options in Cortona exercisable at 35 cents, expiring two years from the date of issue; and
A further eight million options, exercisable at 50 cents (royalty options).
The royalty options will not vest until either the successful delineation of a total of one million ounces of measured and/or indicated resource (in accordance with the requirements of the JORC code) from the New South Wales gold assets or a decision to mine is made on any of the New South Wales gold assets.
In addition to the royalty options, on achievement of either of these royalty milestones, Moly Mines will receive a further $4-million (Australian) cash payment.
Moly Mines looks forward to participating as a major shareholder in the exciting exploration and development strategies of Cortona.
